Star Trek: Bridge Commander maybe a bit of a hit and miss for some (the words Star Trek Turing even the hardcore of sci-fi fans off) however the game has a lot to offer despite some of it’s short comings. Playing the role of Captain in a Galaxy classed stair ship the player must uncover a secret plot to destroy the Federation. While not an original plot the games strong points lay in its game play. As the caption of your ship you can issues orders to your crew members or directly take on their rolls manually, oversee all major operations of your vessel.

While the single player campaign suffers from wordy cut scene the game’s strong points lay in its quick battle system and the hundreds of downloadable third party mods. Mods range from new ships from all walks of the stat trek universe to graphic and game play improvements. It’s these mods alone that make the game appealing long after its release. Reliving famous battles like the one in Wrath of Khan is only a quick download way.

I saw a write up in the paper that Fitz Lang’s Metropolis would be having a one off screening at Warrina Cineplex as part of the cinema club.

The night was rather like entering a security society or some kind of a colt. Every one at the cinema, baring myself and friends seemed to know what was happening and what to do. I stepped up to the counter and asked for my ticket and after a secret and age old “hand shake” (that resulted in me departing with my money in exchange for a ticket) I was soon ticket in hand and seated for the movie.

Despite over 15mins of the movie being lost and/or damaged from age I really liked the movie and the experiences of seeing a silent movie. I was taken away by the sturdiness of the sets as they looked believable, unlike some thing out of a classic Star Trek episode. Metropolis certainly opened my eyes to an age old form of cinema and showed how we really are being feed some shit movies and cinema as of late.
