I rented Blood the Last Vampire on VHS and boy was it a big letdown. It’s a far assumption to say I wouldn’t have been as disappointment if I saw it on DVD but the video store only had it on VHS. However despite the poor pitcher quality of its presentation I could tell that the visual, from a design point of view, look very nice. This however I found could quickly and easily be over look.
At the time of release I was under the impression that the story was setting up for some kind of episodic content, come the closing credits I was rather disappointed with the lack of any real in depth with the story or character development. There were some impressive fights and some good old fashion stuff they call vileness but nothing with any real body or depth. I couldn’t help be full empty with a strong need to know more background information.
Combine Blood’s short running time and my high expectation, coming from the people who made Ghost in the Shell, I felt this was more of an exercise in flexing technology and provides a good argument that Digital technology is over powering everything. People are forgetting the basics of storytelling and cashing in on instant thrills and eye candy.
